Google is Developing Its Own Two Android Wear Smartwatches.
After Google newly declared the plan to launch its own smartphone, the Mountain View-based search giant is reportedly gearing up to introduce its own Android Wear watches. As per the reports, the company is currently developing two smart watches named Swordfish and Angelfish.
Angelfish is believed to be like moto 360, the large size variant that will offer sizes between 42mm and 46 mm. The watch will feature three buttons containing a circular crown similar to that of other competing Android Wear devices. Similar to the Casio WSD-F10, the buttons are on the right side of the watch, with the crown button being the biggest, and the other two shorter and circular buttons sitting above and below. It’s unclear what functions these extra buttons will trigger. It will claim a thickness which is equivalent to LG’s Urbane LTE with support for GPS, LTE, and a heart rate monitor.
It features lugs with a “smooth housing shape that curves where the watch band meets the body,” which provides the device a sporty appealing.
Swordfish is smaller than Angelfish, and won’t have the additional features of its big brother such as GPS or LTE, and it to be expected doesn’t have a heart-rate monitor. Its design is more in tune with the Pebble Time Round, however without the large screen bezels.
“But the overall style of the body and especially the lug design are, in my opinion, quite similar,” Android Police’s David Ruddock says.
Swordfish only has one button like most Android Wear smartwatches. It’s said to be like the button on the Apple Watch, with the center of the button cap to be polished metal. The smartwatch is also remarkably thinner at 10.6mm, and the diameter is 42mm. It will come in titanium, silver, and rose gold.
Just like Google, Apple is also likely to present Watch 2 with enhanced specifications and features. There are reports that the future Apple Watch 2 is likely to be declared alongside the iPhone 7 in September. If reports are to be believed, Apple will announce several variants of Apple Watches to suit both premium users and budget with advanced bands and new materials such as titanium or platinum.
Google had declared Android wear in 2014. LG, Samsung and Motorola had declared watches at that time and later other companies like Asus, Huawei and Alcatel also joined the race. Google is also likely to launch its voice-activated speaker named Google Home, which is dubbed as a competitor to Amazon Echo.
